At Jing Shen Healing Arts, we love herbal medicine—but we don’t believe in selling herbs just for the sake of selling them.
With the rise of online supplement stores and wellness trends, many people assume they can just pick an herb off the shelf and expect results. But herbal medicine isn’t about taking one herb for one symptom—it’s about creating a formula that works for you.
Why We Don’t Just Hand Out Herbs to Everyone
Unlike generic store-bought supplements, Chinese herbal medicine is highly personalized. While we do offer carefully selected, over-the-counter herbal options, there are times when we tell people no—because:
❌ Not every herb is safe for every person. What works for one person could be completely wrong for another, depending on their constitution and underlying imbalances.
❌ Some symptoms require deeper assessment. If someone walks in wanting an herb for pain, digestion, or stress, we may need to ask more questions before giving them anything—because the real issue might not be what they think it is.
❌ Herbs are powerful, and dosage matters. Even a great herb can have unintended effects if the dose isn’t right or if it’s combined incorrectly.
The Problem With “One Herb for One Issue” Thinking
Many people assume that if they have a symptom, they can just Google which herb to take. But Chinese medicine doesn’t work that way.
For example, someone with digestive issues might assume they need ginger or peppermint—but in Chinese medicine, there are different types of digestive imbalances.
- One person might need warming herbs because their system is too cold.
- Another might need cooling herbs because their digestion runs too hot.
- Another might need herbs that move stagnation because their system is sluggish.
The same is true for stress, sleep, hormone imbalances, and even pain. The right formula depends on what’s happening in your body—not just the symptom you notice.
When We Do Recommend Herbs
If we give you an herbal formula, it’s because we’ve taken the time to understand what’s going on with your body.
We might:
✅ Feel your pulse to assess underlying imbalances.
✅ Look at your tongue to see how your system is functioning. ✅ Ask questions about your digestion, sleep, and stress levels to get the full picture.
And even then, we adjust formulas over time based on how your body responds—because your health is always changing.
Trust and Integrity in Herbal Medicine
We want people to feel safe and confident in the herbs they take.
That’s why we:
✔️ Only use high-quality, responsibly sourced herbs
✔️ Offer over-the-counter options only when appropriate
✔️ Prioritize honesty over sales—if we don’t think an herb will help, we won’t sell it to you ✔️ Educate our patients on why a formula is right for them (or why it isn’t)
